We are no longer taking contributions as an independent sangha. As of January 1st, 2025, we’ve merged our finances with the Bozeman Dharma Center. Here’s the news we sent out by email:
New structures for the new year:
We have opted to fold into the Dharma Center and merge our financial operations with those of the overall center– for simplicity, cost reductions and relief of administrative tasks. We will remain an independent sangha offering programming in the Theravada/Vipassana lineage but no longer be an independent financial entity. This is how the Plum Village/TNH, Tergar and MindSpace sanghas currently operate. Seeing that it’s working well for those groups, the BDC board offered this arrangement to us.
What difference will that make, you ask?
We will not have to maintain our own insurance, which will save us about $1000 a year. We will not have to file paperwork with the secretary of state or the IRS. The competent team at the Dharma center will take care of our banking and bookkeeping, streamlining the flows of money that pass back and forth between us and relieving our leaders of those tasks. We already use the Dharma center’s online registration for our programs, so keeping our finances within their systems will be smoother and require less duplication of administrative work.
So from here on out, please give your dana to support our sangha to the Dharma center directly – their dana box, Venmo or online card system. We are closing our Venmo and PayPal and transferring our bank balance to an account in our name at the Dharma center. An additional benefit to this new arrangement is that your support will now be tax deduclible through the BDC’s 501c3 recognition.
Your support will still be needed, to “replace” the support our sangha used to pass on to the BDC. We encourage everyone to maintain their past level of giving – whether it was monthly, occassionally or annually. You might think of it as cutting the Insight’s banking out of the middle and giving funds directly to our “parent” organization – which pays the rent and gives us immeasurable support in marketing, administration, and now banking and bookkeeping.
Thank you for your past and future generosity! We launch 2025 in very healthy financial condition with reserves to support the next retreats and visiting teacher programs, fewer costs and administrative tasks, and a very bright future. It is our mission and pleasure to provide high-quality meditation instruction, a supportive community of like-minded fellows, and inspiration for the ever-unfolding, curiously transformative path of Buddhist practice.
